Midgard Heroic Battles Solo game AAR

Orcs and Dwarves form their battle lines. The Dwarf defenders were in a defensive stance primarily on three hills., while the Orc invaders stacked their centre but also deployed troops on both flanks in an attempt to flank the defenders.

Turn 1

The Orcs had deploy on some hills on their own side of the battlefield. Turn one saw them advance into the grasslands between the two ridges.

Mounted bows advanced into range to harass the Dwarf left flank

The Orc centre advanced towards their Dwarf counterparts

On the Orc left flank, two units of Orcs with a Mage try to outflank the Dwarf line

For the most part the dwarf army stayed in place, playing the waiting game. On the dwarf right flank one unit was move off the hill to defend against the Orc flanking march.

Turn 2

The action heats up. The Orcs decide to press the attack and launch their light cavalry into a reckless charge against a dwarf warrior unit!

In the centre a spear armed light cavalry unit charges home against another Dwarf warrior unit.

On the right, the Orcs are exposed to some withering fire from the Dwarf cannon. Also the support for the light cavalry get hung up and fall dangerously far behind the wolf riders.

Steady march of doom draws ever closer to the Dwarvens defenders.

Orcs draw closer and Dwarf and Orc exchange arrow flights

The Orcs turn the corner and the Mage draws a bead on the Dwarf defenders

Views from the Dwarf lines.

Disaster as the light cavalry fail to disengage and are destroyed leaving their Warlord trapped in combat.

The Orc light cavalry suffer the same fate, unable to disengage they too are destroyed!

The Orc left flank sees plenty of action as both sides conduct charges.

Turn 3

On the Orc right, a failure to move fast enough led to the death of the stranded Orc Warlord

In the centre, the Ogre Bodyguard absolutely destroyed the formed crossbow Dwarves while the Orcs drove the Hearthguard back on their heels!

More action in the centre as two unsupported units fight it out.

One Goblin archer unit is destroyed on the Orc left flank

The flanking Orcs failed to advance to contact, but the Mage did let lose a magic missile spell but to no effect.

Situation at the end of the attackers phases

The Dwarves slammed into the Orc horde on the Orc right flank win one lose one fight

By the end of the third turn the Orcs had been dealt a decisive defeat. Always a disappointment when unit fail to engage but that was the case with the Orc flanking units. The Ogres lived up to their reputation by eliminating an enemy unit in one round of combat, no command roll, just enough damage done to immediately remove the Dwarf crossbow unit.

It was a good test of the rules and of my ability to remember stuff. I did mess up on some stuff and may have forgotten some reputation awards, must keep focused on that aspect. Every game I am getting better at this game, it really is not that tough to play, just have to take ones time in any given phase, go down the list on the cheat sheet and remember to look at the unit sheets for any special rules.
