So, a couple of days ago we sat down to play our usual board game, Sentinels of the Multiverse but we also took out and played Space Cadets away missions!
Well, the Sentinels game was a painful experience. The villain and the environment were really in sync and as a result they gave us quite a run. Now, I do not mind a challenging game, but this game was death by a thousand cuts, we seemed doomed from the beginning but it was not going to be a quick death. But as the hours ticked by the villain played a card from its deck that wiped out the environment (which must have had a row of 12 cards) and this allowed us a chance to turn the tide. We finally defeated the villain (Kismet) but only after we lost two out of four heroes.
After this grueling game session we decided to try a different game; Space cadet away mission. Amazingly we still had enough brain power to figure out this game. I think we tried it once before but neither of us seemed to remember it. So that said I have to say the learning curve was not that bad. The rule book is very well written with some very clear concise explanations and plenty of examples. As a result we were able to quickly set up the game and run through the intro scenario, which we won. We then went on to the second, more complex scenario that saw us lose quite decisively!
The games were fun. We liked the flavour bits, all the ray guns and other equipment was all very retro future and the aliens included saucer men and brains in jars and space slugs. I do look forward do playing this again.
