Some of the aids we use to help stay organized in our Pulp Alley games

Thought I would share some of the things we do to try and make our Pulp Alley games run a little smoother.

So we do any number of tricks to try and create order out of the chaos that can occur while playing the game. In those frantic high energy moments it is often very important to be able to review what Fortune cards you have, and the status of any of your characters.

Idea one; we tend to attach our leagues to magnetic white boards (as pictured above). We use coloured magnets that match the colour of the dice we use, blue magnet for D6, red for D10 etc. We also use specially created numbered dice for the same purpose.
The advantages:
  1.  The small magnets are moved from left to right when a character has been activated, allows us to keep track of who is ready or not.
  2. The numbered magnets indicate current health die, replace the die with the next power number when a hit is not saved.
  3. The numbered magnets match the colour of the dice in use.
  4. Special gear, or rewards received, etc, can be placed next to the character who has the item, makes booking easier.

Idea two: uniformity of dice. In a game that requires 4 different dice types, colour coded dice seems to me to be a simple and logical approach.
The advantages:
  1. Less searching/confusion over dice type
  2. Opponents can see that you are rolling the right dice, we also use a clear tray to roll dice in.
  3. When playing with the occasional gamer it is easier to ask them to roll 3 red dice instead of watching them try to count the number of sides to find the D10.
  4. Oddly it actually helps seasoned players too. It is one more way to confirm what type of dice to roll.
  5. As per idea #1 allows for coordination between our whiteboards magnets and the dice type needed to roll.

Idea three: Card holders. We use card holders that can easily hold up to 12 cards (2 rows of 6)
The card holders we use are made by a local gamer. I am certain something like them can be found where ever you are. Someone on LAF has suggested using chalk board erasers, as they have small grooves that will hold cards and would no doubt be very cost effective.
The advantages:
  1. Just easier to see what you have at a glance
  2. You can also sort the cards to separate out the handy cards, such as "When an enemy activates".
  3. Less fumbling with cards, constantly putting them down when time to move, then picking them back up and re-sorting them again.
