What a Tanker meets VSF

British Monitor vs Japanese monitor off in the distance

This was our second game of What a Tanker! You can find the first game HERE The first game went so quickly we figured we could get another couple of games in, but that was not to be! This time around it was two monitors fighting it out.

Both  had armour/strike 8/6. Both also had slow turrets, with the British also having a turret with a reduced traverse. The British tank also had heavy armour.

The Japanese find cover but are driven back by the British fire.

Turn four sees the Japanese race down the road finding some cover.

Turn six sees the British advance, fire and miss, again!

As the Japanese advance the British give ground

The Japanese making use of an excessive amount of Drive dice manages to get around to the rear of the British!

Despite the close range the Japanese fail to strike the British who scuttle away.

The situation on turn ten.

Turn thirteen sees the dance macabre continue!

Turn fifteen sees the British charge again, and miss again!

Re thinking their plan, the British retreat to cover behind the hill, turn 18

Turn 20 and the British charge again!

Do or die time, turn 23 see the two tanks close in an attempt to end the game

Then suddenly it is BOOM!, the British are destroyed.

So, to understand so of the comings and goings of the British tank you need to know that they had inflicted a lot of temporary damage to the Japanese, reducing them down to 2 command dice. By moving and hiding the British player kept reducing the effectiveness of the Japanese as they would keep having to reacquire and/or keep trying to aim at the British tank. On top of that the Japanese player failed to roll a 6 on any command die for something like 8 turns!

The Japanese player did score a critical hit on the British, the only critical hit in either game. He also did a lot of fancy moving to at one time breaking the British acquisition, and to get behind the British monitor. In the end the he scored three hits while the British player failed all 8 saving rolls!

It was a fun game full of tension and movement with the outcome always in doubt even when one player was reduced to 2 command dice, he just kept fighting.
