Something old, very old; Some GW Man O War ships

Actually, a mix of Man O War and some of the ships from Mighty Empires.

I was inspired to dig these out of storage after watching a game of Galleys & Galleons run by a fellow named Morgan at a recent OMG meeting. The game looked fun enough(more interesting than I thought it would be) and digging these out was no problem.

The game is by Nic Wright author of many, many games, most notably (to me at least) Fantastic Battles. GG does look to be more versatile than most other naval/fantasy naval games that I have encountered before. Like Fantastic Battles, GG allows you to customize your ships any way you se fit, but it does include sample ships to help you to understand what you are designing. Anyways more talk about the game after I have tried it out.

The picture above shows nine pirate ships from Mighty Empires and some Empire ships from MoW. I am missing one of the Wolf ship hulls, but I do have the aft deck should it show up.

I hope nobody bet against me...

So, just a quick update, the Spanish fleet is now mine too.

So this time last week I had a total of two, (2) Black Seas ships (they came with a WI issue). Now I have 55 ships spread out among three fleets (and two merchants) In a blink of an eye I suddenly confront:

  • 3 named 1st rates
  • 3 generic 1st rates
  • 9 named 3rd rates
  • 9 named Frigates
  • 20 generic brigs
  • 3 gunboat squadrons
  • 6 Schooners
  • 2 merchant ships

No rules yet, but they have been posted as of today. Also some scenery.

Madness, madness

Oh, and that means the US fleet is still there for someone to pick up, less expensive than the other fleets...hint hint.

Aprils project seems to be taking shape naval gazing!

With the water board in place, I guess I will be doing naval action. It was not my original thoughts, I really want to finish off the left overs from the AHPC, but what could go wrong if I put that off a bit. (APHC XIII?)

So I already have a number of naval games

  • Water battles makes up a large part of Dystopian Wars
  • Blood and Plunder is a pirate game
  • I have Sally4th steamer to build for Pulp Alley
  • Some Sarissa speed boats also for Pulp Alley
  • A riverboat steamer that will show up in All Quiet on the Martian Front

Heck even Godzilla came out of the ocean!

So that should be enough stuff right, I mean that 4 different games, 3 different scales, yeah I think that should do it...or is it?

A closer look at the Villa by Crescent Root Studios

I felt these deserved a better showcase than my unboxing/review video. So, I managed to clear off some space on one of my tables, dug out my old harbor/bay scenery (first seen here back in 2016's Pulp Alley Lagoon of Terror) and set up some trees and bushes.

WIP, another ship...I fear this will not be the end of it!

A very good size galleon, just the the tempting target for  some pirates. However with 28 cannons, and 8 swivel guns it is a target that can fight back!.

WIP Ships!

Not much to assemble (so far), very nice detail, and not much cleaning required.

From the nightstand to the DVD player

Inspired by my reading of the Hornblower books, I went through my video collection seeking seafaring movies. These movies coupled with the Hornblower novels, have I fear, started me down a bad path...
