Cangames finds

So found some stuff from various vendors at Cangames. Apparently I am going to be working on a centaur themed Fantastic Battles army. I found these at Crossed Swords. Seventeen centaurs and 1 big monster/Minotaur/centaur thing. While I did not go looking for them, they were a fair price and I figure I do something with them. Apparently they are Bob Murch sculpts from the early 2000s. I already had some very old chaos centaurs painted a few years back. Combined this will be a force of 27 centaurs, roughly 12-13 companies and a couple of leaders. The big guy will be built as a dragon. The winded figure in the picture will be used for another project.

Charge to the sound of the trumpet!!!

My latest acquisition, again from Matakishi (Paul) are these fine Britannia US cavalry! All very well painted and based (although I will be rebasing) The collections consists of 40 mounted troopers ans 40+ dismounted figures, including 5 dead horses. These were apparently surplus to needs, I should have such surpluses! Well I guess in this case I do...

When I bought them I had no immediate plans for them, but at the price he was selling them for, being painted already, well, I just had to have them. Now that they are here I have decided to pack them off to Mars to defend American interests. Not having any Native American figures kind of made this decision a no brainer.

I also picked up these three beasties, which I had first seen on Paul's blog and had wanted them then. So they too were quickly snapped up by me. The poor unfortunate Ahmed is one of mine just there for scale.

That should be it for painted figures bought by me for a while. As I said it is just not something I tend to do despite my love hate relationship with painting figures. By the end of painting figures I really do feel good about it and tend to ignore or forget some of my complaining.

More pictures.

Some classic Parroom Station minatures

Parroom Station tripods finally got some paint on them, other than the primer that was done years ago (maybe 5+)

The round cages were added for an AQMF game scenario the Harvest. They are based for Earth action, because of AQMF should they show up on Mars they will need to be re-based. Only one of them has been given a weapon, in this case a black smoke discharger. I have a heat ray for each of the other tripods that I will add once I am done with them for AQMF.

Here they are against some 18mm armoured infantry. They were nice models to build and paint it is a pity that the line is no longer available.

Return to VSF?

Found this at Fandom II just the other day. I may well have seen this at the store when it first came out, really not certain, I do know that I saw it online a couple of years back, and really liked the look of it, but I just could not rationalize the cost.

More VSF stuff being worked on

After many years of sitting in a box I have finally decided to tackle some VSF projects. The big walker is my version of the classic Martian invaders tripod. It is very tall, and will certainly dominate any battlefield. As usual it built from a dollar store find, in this case a device for flying a kite. Simple removed the crank, gutted the interior and found some legs (used plastic novelty straws) Fortunately/unfortunately it is big enough that I think I will need to add lights to this, it just seems to cry out for them.

The other item is a simple conversion of a cheap plastic tractor, with a 15mm turret attached, The gun is one of many guns that came with the turret.

VSF walker

A work in progress this time out. A long delayed project finally gets started, sad really that it has taken this log to even begin. I have had the materials and the plans for a few years, but procrastination, kept this from getting done. Now I have the time and the inclination to get this going.

Last week I worked on my gaming room to get it more organized. All too often I have found myself cleaning my game room instead of actually doing my hobby. Now it is otganized, and I am determined to keep it organized, however given the state of mess that has been the norm for decades, I freely acknowledge that it will be no easy task to stay on top of things.

The last few days saw me completely reorganize all of my 28mm VSF stuff. It now occupies about 10 shelves, which is down a shelf or two, but because it is organized I can now see actual space on my shelves. With it all organized I can actually see what needs to be done, I can quickly pull out what I want to work on as it is all at hand. This week I also spent some time re-basing my VSF figures off of the slotta bases and onto 3/4" washers. So far they have been re-based only, they still need to be textured, flocked etc, My shelves contain both painted and unpainted figures. However they are all at the very least based and primed. Being an unfocused gamer means that I might suddenly decide to change genres at the drop of a hat, and I always want to get right in on the new genre, no patience to prep. Also given Canadian winters are not the best for priming, and I like to be able to breathe in the house, I prep as much as I can when our weather is being cooperative.

Enough rambling, onto the WIP pictures.

Dominion of Canada Militia on Mars

These have been sitting half painted for a couple of years. Finally got around to them this week, as part of my plan to get to all of the stuff that is just hanging around. They were in a bad way, almost better to have stripped them or re prime them rather then try to finish what had been started.

At any rate they are done (mostly) and ready for the table. I say mostly because I thought they were done until I reviewed the pics I have taken and spotted errors and omissions. Why does this always seem to happen...

The figures are Foundry ACW. I went with these because I saw a picture in an Osprey book of a Canadian militia man in a havelock hat, and these figures had the hat and accoutrements that came pretty close to matching the picture.

By old RAFM painting guide, terrible pictures...

This was the painting guide included with the box set issued by RAFM. I do not believe it is still available.

Hopefully you can read this, not certain if it contains what you hoped it would.
Also hope this does not contravene any rules/laws out there, no infringement intended!

Some new beasties

First VSF stuff in a while.

Must confess these were started for a Pulp Alley campaign game. The monsters I planned to use for a tomb scenario proved too large for the narrow dungeon. So I quickly started working on the two little ones. Then since I started them it seemed like a good idea to finish off the larger pair too. Small figures are from Paroom Station, the larger are made by Bronze age miniatures.

They came out a little more red/pink than I had envisioned, but I think I like how they look.

Mechanical men

This weeks output, most items were just started last week, but had been kicking around the house for a few years. I am kind of surprised at how little time it has taken to get this stuff done once started, and a little disappointed with myself that it took so long to get going on this.

I have no delusions about the longevity of this project (I direct you to the name of this blog) but I am keen to see how much I can get done before I become distracted by another project. I do know that I will be gearing up for a Pulp Alley campaign in the new year, either Lemuria or the tomb.

Time to end this rambling with some pictures.

Masked Minions Elite unit

Just finished these figures, they have been kicking around for a few years...
Old Paroom Station figures part of a large primed VSF collection. Somehow I have been spurred into action on this collection, and I am going to see just how much I can get done before I become unfocused by some other distraction.

Two critters of Mars

These two have been loitering around my to be painted pile for a long time.
I intend to use them as Martian beasties, but they may also do double duty as Pulp monsters we shall see.

Armies of Mars

Well here we go with my VSF images of some of my painted stuff.
