Canadian defenders
Shawn and I played a very truncated version of the previous scenario, focusing only on the assault on the town. I reduced the forces and the size to the town, and we used rules inspired by the Rampant series of rules.
Minions deployed on three sides of the town
I found our new version of VSF rules worked better, it was more integrated. We assigned 'armour' ratings to all the troops, & this value represented the number of hits required to knock out a figure. We eliminated saves and beat by X value on the melee dice (used in V&F&S) It made for a smoother game.
Some of the automatons have already reached the ruins while the clockwork spiders scuttle across the rough terrain
Canadian troops man the barricade
The Canadians have taken fire, but returned fire as well
Troops redeploy and fight off a unit of Automatons
Main line taking heavy casualties
Lightning gun troops continue to lay down fire
Flanking minions manage to take out the tricycle machine gun
So, the fight was not a fair one, the Minions clearly outnumbered the defenders, but then the point of the game was to test out some rules and to see how long the defenders could hold out. I liked some of the rules that we took from Xenos Rampant. As a starting point I think the concepts might well work for what I have in mind for a VSF game. I may also borrow some ideas from Midgard, the current fav game.
