However I was joined by one player who could only stay for a short while, so what better time to learn a new (to me) board game. In this case we tried the deck building card game:
EMINENT DOMAIN
I have played a number of the deck building games, with mixed feelings. Typically I find them kind of dull at the start as you must build your deck into something useful, but while doing this one often feels like you are spinning your wheels, killing time until you can finally start to do something. Also if up against a player that is more familiar with this type of game you can really get hosed. Finally, typically they are played in turns, I go then you go, so there can be some down time.
Not so this game! I felt involved and empowered, right from the start. The game play allows you to participate in the other players turn, piggy backing onto whatever role they have selected. (the role dictates what activity you will do that turn) So while you do not get the full best advantage of leading the role you still get some benefits. The game play was quick to pickup, and offers many paths towards victory.
As for the appearance of the game; it is well presented, with nice components, and good thematic flavour. We were only two players, I do think it will be even better with three or four players.
