So, a new set of sci-fi space rules, the first for me in quite some time!
The rules look very interesting, any models can be used, and 2-4 players can play at one time. The rules at first glance seem quite easy to learn, and offer a lot of options. The big thing to me is the mission generation that eliminates the traditional game set up of two fleets meeting across a board, and instead makes use of jump points to drop ships into, and out of the fray. With specific missions games do not devolve into a slow grind, instead commanders must assess their needs and deploy the right assets to achieve their goal, but do not over spend on your force or you may well wind up spending more resorces than you will gain by winning the scenario.
Using two tables and having forces able to redeploy from one table to another is genius and again adds an extra level to the game.
What size of table is needed? I saw a couple of GF9 mats today, but, at 3' x 3', they are too small for BFG, even combined
ReplyDeleteIn theory, any size area will work. It uses multiple 'tables' to play on. That could mean multiple mats or mats that have been divided. Players deploy on all tables and can jump ships in or out of any table to any table as needs demand. All players compete to complete contracts, the number of contracts in play determines how many tables are set up. The actual size of the individual tables is not stipulated, but the game is predicated on the idea of quick fights, not slowly moving into contact range.
