Midgard Heroic Battles

So, we had our first real test of Midgard today. Last week me and Steve hashed out a small battle based on the first scenario, but it was really more of a walk through of the rules rather than a proper game. This weekend I played GM to two other players as we played the first scenario with 300 points a side. We used the sample Orc and Dwarf army lists as it seemed a good place to start.

Orc light wolf cavalry and Ogre bodyguards flanked by rank and file troops

The Dwarven defensive line, scouts on the left flank and massed rank and file in the centre and right flank.

Neither player had any familiarity with the rules, but they both clearly listened to me when I talked about the value of supporting troops! Both were a little hesitant and it took a few turns before melee occured.

Most of the action took place on the flanks, in the centre, the two armies mostly stared at each other. On the Orc right flank On the Orc right flank the Orcs were able to drive back the Dwarves through combined archers and infantry assaults. The Dwarves lost their left flank commander which meant limited access to re-rolls.

The Dwarf centre was forced to refuse their flank as there troops on their left gave way to the Orc assault.

The Ogre bodyguard crushed their Dwarven opponents and sent them routing, leaving the army commander to face their fury. The Ogres did not escape unscathed as they suffered two wounds from the Dwarf hero's magic sword. With only one reputation left the Dwarven army commander had no choice but to remain in combat.

In the end there was nothing that the Dwarves could do to stem the green tide. With no reputation left in their cup the game came to an end.
